Arsène Wenger is "surprised and disappointed" that David Dein was overlooked for the role of FA chairman.
The former Arsenal and FA vice-chairman was favourite to succeed Lord Triesman, who resigned in May. Instead David Bernstein has been recommended to the FA board by a nominations committee headed by Bolton chairman Phil Gartside.
Wenger worked closely with Dein until the latter left Arsenal in 2007 and he feels his former colleague has plenty to offer.
"I was completely surprised and disappointed," said Wenger.
"[Dein would have offered] a competent knowledge of football and international football. It was a disappointment."Copyright 2015 The Arsenal Football Club plc. Permission to use quotations from this article is granted subject to appropriate credit being given to www.arsenal.com as the source
