Armand Traore... Frenchman hasn't featured for Pompey since January

Wenger - Different futures for loan duo

By Declan Taylor

Arsène Wenger admits Philippe Senderos’ future remains up in the air but Armand Traore will return to Arsenal in the summer.

The pair secured season-long loan deals away from North London last summer but have endured rather differing fortunes at their adopted clubs.

Traore started his campaign at Portsmouth with a bang, operating at left wing and left back for Harry Redknapp’s impressive Pompey. He appeared in all but two of their opening 15 Premier League fixtures.

The South-coast club’s form took a turn for the worst when Redknapp left to join Tottenham at the end of October and the Frenchman’s first-team opportunities became increasingly limited after the manager’s departure. In fact, Traore has only appeared twice since the turn of the year – his last outing coming on January 31.

On the other hand, Senderos’ spell at AC Milan was almost the exact opposite.

The Swiss defender’s chances at the San Siro were intitally hampered by injury and he did not appear for the Rossoneri until December. Thereafter, Senderos has been almost ever-present in central defence during Milan’s Serie A title challenge.

With the duo’s loan deals nearing their conclusion, Wenger gave an update on their respective Arsenal futures.

"Senderos is in the hands of Milan because they can decide to pay the amount of transfer and keep him,” the manager explained at Thursday’s pre-match press conference.

“But Armand will come back."
