Arsène Wenger hopes the pre-season tradition of the Emirates Cup will “last forever”.
At the weekend, Arsenal will compete with Atletico Madrid, Rangers and Paris Saint-Germain in the third Emirates Cup since the Club moved from Highbury to Emirates Stadium in July 2006.
The two-day tournament may not be the first of its kind on the continent, but for Wenger, the “calibre” of the competition is not matched anywhere else in Europe.
“I would love it to last forever,” the manager told Arsenal.com. “To know that in every pre-season we would have this kind of tournament.
“I look around and don’t see any other tournament of the same calibre.”
As a reminder, the two days of action are as follows:
Saturday 1st August 2009
Rangers v Paris Saint-Germain (2pm Kick-off)
Arsenal v Atletico Madrid (4.15pm Kick-off)
Sunday 2nd August 2009
Atletico Madrid v Paris Saint-Germain (2pm kick-off)
Arsenal v Rangers (4.15pm kick-off)
Emirates Cup 2009 tickets are still available. Day admission tickets, which give access to both matches in a day are available from £25 for adults and £15 for OAPs and under 16s.
