Arsène Wenger believes that the gap between English clubs and the rest of Europe is “not as big as before”.
At least one Premier League side has appeared in the Final of the Champions League for each of the past four seasons and the last time that no English club made it to the Semi-Finals was 2003.
However, on Champions League Matchday Four, none of the quartet of Premier League teams could manage a win. It is evidence that previous English dominance could be waning, according to Wenger.
“After the last year, the year before that and the first three games this season, everybody thought we [the English teams] will just turn up and will qualify,” said the manager.
“Suddenly we all got hit in the fourth game when nobody won. I think that shows you the difference with the other teams is not as big as before.”Copyright 2017 The Arsenal Football Club plc.
