Rafael Benitez and Arsène Wenger
Wenger - Benitez criticism is undeserved
By Nick Teale
Arsène Wenger says Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is receiving more stick than he deserves following the Anfield club's poor start to the season.
The Merseyside outfit have lost their previous four games, piling the pressure on manager Benitez.
The Reds host Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon before heading to Emirates Stadium for a Carling Cup clash next Wednesday.
Wenger says the criticism the Spaniard has come in for is unfair and believes the intense scrutiny is one of the pressures of managing a big club.
"We are in a job [where if] a big club goes through a difficult period you know that you get more stick than you should," said the Frenchman.
"But we know as well in our job that it is part of it. I feel sorry that he gets that because he doesn’t deserve it, but we basically understand within the job, it's part of the rules."
