Arsène Wenger believes Yossi Benayoun provides Arsenal with balance on the left side of midfield.
Benayoun started his fifth Premier League game of the season against Manchester City on Sunday, impressing out wide in Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Emirates Stadium.
The Israeli international has been used in the same position against Tottenham and Liverpool in recent months and Wenger believes the versatile midfielder’s experience is a vital commodity in the bigger games.
“First of all he knows the job in this [wide] position,” he told Arsenal Player. “He is highly focused in the big games, that is a massive part, because you cannot switch off.
“So we have a good balance in the team with him and a good focus. And of course he has quality. We have to say that in the games he has started he did extremely well and the team did extremely well as well. That is never a coincidence.”
Benayoun has been restricted to 20 appearances this season thanks to the consistent displays of Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky at the heart of midfield, and Wenger admits he has not yet decided about the future of the on-loan midfielder.
“No, not yet [I have not made a decision],” said the Frenchman. “That will happen at the end of the season. We have to look at the situation in a global way because we have many players out on loan so we need to deal with these situations.”
