Chuks Aneke reminds Arsène Wenger of a young Yaya Toure.

The 18-year-old has been hugely impressive for Neil Banfield’s Reserves over the last two seasons and he made his first-team debut in the Carling Cup victory over Shrewsbury Town last month.

Wenger has seen Aneke rise through the ranks at the Club and has likened him to the man who had a trial with Arsenal before going on to become a vital cog in Manchester City’s midfield. Wenger would have signed Toure had it not been for red tape.

“Chuks is a bit like Yaya Toure – he has body power and good technique,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “We had Yaya here [on trial] and for me Chuks is a bit similar because he can play behind the striker or in a deeper role as well.

“We will have to see where he will develop, it is not excluded that in the future he will play deeper in midfield.”
