Arsène Wenger believes that Emmanuel Adebayor answered any questions about his commitment to Arsenal against Real Madrid in the Emirates Cup on Sunday.

The Togolese striker thumped home a 49th-minute penalty, the only goal of the game, and worked tirelessly in pursuit of more. A brilliant mazy run midway through the second-half typified his sterling performance.

Wenger understands that speculation during the summer has perhaps harmed Adebayor’s relationship with the Arsenal fans. But if the front-man continues to turn in the type of effort he did against Madrid, his manager has no fear that any existing rift will soon heal.

"He felt that people had questioned his commitment and the best answer to that is to give your all on the pitch,” Wenger said on Sunday. “Play well, show that you are ready to fight for your shirt, fight for your team and be efficient. He showed that.

“He is a man of character. You know how it is, if you score goals people quickly forget the frustration.

“You have to show things with performances in our job."
