Sanchez Watt feels he is a better player for his loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday after learning a different style of football in League One.
The 20-year-old striker made four appearances during his two months at Hillsborough before heading back to Arsenal last week and then onto Crawley Town in another loan deal.
Watt says he benefited in a number of ways from his time with Wednesday, not least how to adapt his game to a different attacking approach.
“It was good to go out on loan - to get used to winning three points and playing with the big boys basically. And getting used to the winning mentality; every game was a must win, so it was good,” he told Arsenal.com.
“Sheffield Wednesday [adopt] a slightly different style of play. We used more channel balls and I was looking to chase it more. But it was good for me because I obviously learnt something different. You need to work hard there, and it’s non-stop running.
“It was a bit of a different situation to Leeds [where he was on loan last season], but it felt like the same because obviously we were second in the league and there were big expectations.
“Everyone wants to play. I didn’t go into a losing team - it was a winning team already, so we had to stay on top and win games.”
Watt also admits he has been inspired by the likes of Nico Yennaris and Ignasi Miquel, who have featured for the Arsenal first team in recent weeks.
“It’s a big boost, seeing players that you train with coming on, getting their opportunity and doing well,” he said.
“There are a lot of injuries at the moment so it’s been a good chance for them. You just need to make sure that when players are out injured, you take your chance when it comes. I wouldn’t be a footballer if I wasn’t thinking about making that step too.”
