Theo Walcott is no stranger to Champions League heroics - and this time his Quarter-Final contribution will NOT be overshadowed.

The England winger provided the assist of the season at Anfield last April but ended up on the losing side after two late Liverpool goals ended Arsenal’s European dream. It was a different story on Wednesday night as Walcott’s perfectly-executed chip set up a 3-0 victory over Villarreal which booked a Semi-Final clash with Manchester United.

Walcott admits that Arsenal ran out of steam this time last year as they chased silverware at home and abroad. This season, he believes they are coming to the boil at just the right time.

“The lads were brilliant against Villarreal,” said Walcott. “We dug in at their place and this was an absolutely fantastic result for us.

“Last year we had our bad spell at the end but this year hopefully we’ve had that and hopefully we can have a brilliant end to the season.

“We like to stay in the background, keep nice and quiet and just come round the back. We’re getting players back fit and we’re performing at the right time.

“We’re playing brilliant football and we’re scoring goals from all sorts of positions, which helps the team. Obviously we’re defending well too.

“We have players out but the players coming in are doing just as good a job. We’re flying at the moment.”
