Theo Walcott admits he was impressed with Marseille’s performance at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.

Didier Deschamps’ side proved a far greater attacking threat away from the Stade Velodrome - despite not scoring on either occasion - and the England international believes a point apiece was ultimately the right outcome.

The England winger says it was always going to be a testing encounter against the French outfit, who currently sit just a point behind Arsenal in Champions League Group F.

“It was always going to be tough,” said Walcott. “Obviously a lot of people are still thinking about that game at the weekend, but Marseille are a strong team. The obvious positive from this was keeping a clean sheet.

“It's disappointing that we didn't score any goals considering the amount we got at the weekend but you can't score all the time. It was probably a fair result in the end.

“You had to give credit to Marseille at times; they came here, did a job and used the width of the pitch very well. We found it tough at times to retain the ball, but you can't always play like we did at the weekend.

“As long as we didn't lose - it's been a lot of games since we have - that's another good positive."
