Theo Walcott enjoyed his most productive season in an Arsenal shirt in 2010/11 and the England international is eying another season among the goals.

It took the 22-year-old just 37 minutes to open his pre-season account when he latched onto Aaron Ramsey’s defence-splitting pass before expertly lobbing the Malaysia XI keeper on Wednesday. The goal doubled Arsenal’s lead and set them on their way to a comfortable victory in Kuala Lumpur.

Walcott fired a hat-trick against Blackpool early on last season and he wants to hit the ground running again when the new campaign gets underway.

“I wanted to do that last season so hopefully I can show what I can do in the Premier League very early on,” he told Arsenal Player.

“It's nice to get a goal but it is all about fitness at this stage and I feel great when I'm out there [on the pitch].

“It was nice to blow the cobwebs away in the first game and get a win. We wanted to defend well and getting a few goals is a bonus. Everyone feels very fit now and it was a good performance from the lads so bring on China.”
