Theo Walcott... feels sharp as ever

Walcott - I am feeling as sharp as ever

By Nick Teale

Theo Walcott says he feels as "sharp as ever" and would be happy to take on a more central role against Chelsea if asked to do so by manager Arsène Wenger.

The 20-year-old has made two substitute appearances for Arsenal since returning from a knee injury sustained in the Gunners' 3-1 win over Birmingham in October.

But now Walcott says he feels great and is ready to fight for a starting berth in Arsène Wenger's side.

"My knee feels fine," he said after the 2-0 win against Standard Liege. "It definitely has been frustrating with the injuries but you can't help that.

"I've been working hard trying to get fit for a long time so hopefully my injury problems are out of the way now and I can just concentrate on playing for Arsenal."

So can Walcott make an impact against Chelsea on Sunday? The player says that is a decision for Wenger to make.

"I feel great, I feel sharp as ever and I've been training well but you'll have to ask the boss that question," he said.

With Robin van Persie injured Walcott's name has been mentioned as a possible replacement in the central striker's role and the player himself would be more than happy to fulfil that duty.

"It's a shame about Robin because he's done such a tremendous job for us this year," said the England star.

"We've got great strikers coming in for him so I'm one of a bunch of strikers who could do that job but again you'll have to ask the boss that question.

"I'd love to play up front but in this Club I'd play anywhere; it is such a great squad and we've got so many brilliant players."
