The International Football Association Board are set to discuss the issue at a special meeting in Kiev on July 2 and Vermaelen is among those who would welcome the introduction of replays for officials.

“It would take just a few seconds for the referee to learn the outcome so I think it would be good for technology to be introduced to the game. It is going well in other sports, so why not in football?”
