Robin van Persie says Arsenal’s heavy defeat at Old Trafford in August is a major motivating factor ahead of Sunday’s showdown with Manchester United.
The Gunners slipped to the worst defeat of Arsène Wenger’s reign when an injury-hit side were beaten 8-2 by the Premier League champions.
Van Persie expects a tough test against United this weekend but he is “hungry” to right the wrongs of last summer.
“What happened against Manchester United at Old Trafford is a motivation, for sure. I’d never lost a match 8-2 before so I’m hungry to put that right, as is the entire team,” the captain told the Official Matchday Programme.
“Everyone has been looking really sharp in training this week, so we’re ready for the game and feeling positive about it.
“We know exactly what we’re in for - Manchester United are great competitors who often manage to nick a game even if they seem to be struggling.
“When the season reaches its final couple of months they’re always there to compete - they may or may not win the league, but they’re always fighting for it.
“We’re in for the usual big challenge they present us but we’re all looking forward to setting things straight.”
