Robin van Persie says the character of Arsenal’s youngsters made him proud on Wednesday night.

Van Persie – Arsenal’s captain for the new season – thinks the mental strength of his side helped see them through to the Champions League Group Stage for the 14th consecutive season.

“If you look at the guys and their ages, what they showed in the second half was very promising. I’m really pleased with that commitment,” the striker told Arsenal Player.

“Some people questioned our mental strength, but if you look at the game that’s what we showed.

“Now it’s up to us to show that every three or four days, not just tonight. We have to do that over and over again, that’s just football.”

The full interview with Robin is now available on Arsenal Player. He discusses: what qualification means for the Club, team spirit and a tough night in Italy.
