Benik Afobe was on the scoresheet as England made a winning start to the European Under-17 Championship with a 3-1 triumph over Czech Republic on Tuesday night. Afobe almost opened the scoring six minutes in but had a header cleared off the line before Jakub Plsek gave the Czechs an early lead. England's comeback began when Ross Barkley equalised on the 20-minute mark but Afobe was denied again before the break, this time by keeper Vlastimil Vesely. But the Arsenal striker would get his goal midway through the second half. Joshua McEachran put the Three Lions ahead in the 68th minute and 60 seconds later Afobe found the bottom corner from 20 yards to open his account for the tournament. Next up for England is a clash with Greece on Friday.
