If you believe the speculation, Arsenal are on the verge of signing a couple of players and are about to release another.
The truth is rather more prosaic.
Arsène Wenger was presented with a string of rumours at his pre-match press conference on Friday and poured cold water on each of them.
Is Bordeaux striker Maroune Chamakh on his way to Arsenal? “There is no news,” replied Wenger.
Is Philippe Senderos heading to Everton or Sunderland? “Nothing new as well,” said the manager.
How about Fulham defender Brede Hangeland? Will we see him in a red and white shirt soon?
“There is no development at all,” insisted Wenger.
“I do not want to speak about that because we have an important game in front of us, and it is important we focus on that and not talk about players coming in.
“If we buy someone we will tell you.”
