Kolo Toure thinks that focussing on the threat of Steven
Gerrard, NOT Fernando Torres, is paramount if Arsenal are to
overcome Liverpool in the Champions League. Although he admits the
duo can be devastating if they are both on song.
Since Torres' arrival on Merseyside, the Spanish striker and
his club captain have formed an unnerving on-field partnership. The
pair have notched a creditable 31 League goals between them so far
this season.
Along with William Gallas, Toure is charged with stultifying the
pair when the respective teams do battle three times over the next
seven days. And the Ivorian is relishing the challenge.
"Torres is a good player and had been doing really well in Spain," said Toure. "Now he is doing really well in England. He is a great striker.
"For us, it is not Torres who is the most important, it is the team. They have Steven Gerrard who is really, really good. If you can stop Steven Gerrard, then you can stop the Liverpool team.
"Torres is a really good player, but if he does not have a
really good Steven Gerrard [playing too], then the game will be
much easier for us.
"They understand each other the way they play, the way they
pass the ball, the way they move and that is what we will be
looking to stop."
