FABREGAS V TOTTENHAM (H) 31-10-2009
A typically tense, tough North London derby was drifting towards half-time with no goals to report when Arsenal struck twice in just 11 seconds of play.
Robin van Persie poked them ahead and, straight from the kick-off, Fabregas slammed in a magnificent goal to steal the show and effectively secure the points.
Spurs had kicked off after Van Persie's strike but a sloppy pass allowed the Dutchman to immediately divert the ball towards Fabregas.
The captain saw his opportunity and accelerated past Jermaine Jenas and Wilson Palacios. Spurs centre back Ledley King came out to challenge but Fabregas was too quick for him and prodded the ball past him too.
Now at top speed, Fabregas took another touch to set up his shot and fired the ball low past Heurelho Gomes and into the corner.
It was a fine solo goal and the midfielder was clearly delighted. He raced towards the Arsenal fans, pumping his arms before sliding on his knees at the corner flag. He leapt back to his feet to punch the air in front of the home faithful.
