Before the team left for Italy, Arsène Wenger reported the following team news ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League Play-Off against Udinese:
on the players returning to the squad...
Rosicky is in the squad, he's available, he had a test this [Tuesday] morning. We don't know whether he will be fit to start but he is in the squad. Djourou and Traore are back as well. Alex Song and Gervinho are back from suspension. Robin van Persie and Emmanuel Frimpong are available too.
on Jack Wilshere...
Unfortunately Wilshere is not ready so that is bad news for us and adds to the players we miss with transfers and some through injuries. Of course at the moment the squad is short.
on Laurent Koscielny...
Koscielny is out but he has a chance to be fit to face Manchester United.
on the emergence of Jack Wilshere's problem…
“Jack felt the first sign in the second half of the game against Switzerland. After that during the holidays it was all right and then his pain increased when we were on tour in Asia. We had two good test days on Friday and Saturday. Monday morning, we had a test with the squad and he felt it again.”
on the length of his absence…
“There’s no chance he will be fit for England. He’s in a boot now."
on the effects of last season…
“Maybe it is a consequence of last season, he was in the red like I told you and in fairness what nobody wanted to hear. We knew he was in the red in the last two months and we continued to play him because we had no choice. But maybe it is a consequence of the overuse last year.”
on the injury itself...
“For me Jack was always out long-term because he was out three weeks. It’s a hot-spot on the bone of his ankle so if he continues to play it can lead to a more serious problem. So we had to stop him.”
