Wojciech Szczesny expects Arsenal to improve their record from set pieces this season.

Defending from corners and free kicks was the team's Achilles heel last term with more than half of the goals they conceded in the Premier League coming in that fashion.

Szczesny ended last season as the Club's No 1 and looks well-placed to make the position his own when the new campaign kicks off next month. Ahead of the Emirates Cup he explained why he thinks Arsenal will be tougher to break down.

"You might see a little change this weekend in our tactics [with set pieces]," revealed Szczesny. "We’ve been working on it and I believe it’s working. I believe we’re going to get much better at dealing with set pieces this season.

"We weren't really stung by the criticism we received last season but it made us more determined to work hard on our weaknesses and I believe we can improve on it."

The return to fitness of Lukasz Fabianski and Vito Mannone will give Szczesny plenty of competition in the months to come but the young Pole wants to pick up where he left off in May.

"I enjoyed my spell last season and I want to do my best to convince the boss that I should be No 1," he said. "We are all friends – all the players at the Club are friends – but at the same time, we want the same No 1 spot."
