Wojciech Szczesny says he is delighted to be back between the posts after injury hampered his start to the season - and he feels his best form is returning.

Szczesny started Arsenal’s first game of the campaign against Sunderland, before rib and ankle knocks limited him to one more start prior to his comeback in last month’s north London derby.

Szczesny admits it was a tough time to be sidelined and now he wants to help Arsenal to climb the league table.

“I admit it has been a difficult few months,” he said. “I found it hard to adjust playing with little injuries and knocks, especially in the last couple of months of last season.

“But I am pretty much sharper and fitter now, looking forward to getting back to my best and leaving those difficult times behind.

“I am feeling really sharp in every game, and the manager is sticking with me, which is really good, so I just want to get back to my best as quick as I can because I have not been at my best for the last few months.

“I am definitely surprised by our position in the league, because when you have the quality of our players, we should be fighting for trophies and we do have one of the best teams in the Premier League.

“Our fans do not deserve to see us 10th in the table, but it is our responsibility to put things right and make sure we get back to where we belong.”
