Wojciech Szczesny has revealed his admiration for Ali Al-Habsi - and says Arsenal must be at their best to beat the Wigan goalkeeper tonight.

The Oman international has earned plaudits for a string of superb performances this season, despite the fact the Latics are fighting for survival.

Roberto Martinez’s side visit Emirates Stadium on Monday and Szczesny expects Al-Habsi to deliver another fine display against the Gunners.

“I have always been a fan, I think he's a great shot-stopper,” he told Arsenal Player.

“He reads the game very well, which is not always the case with a great shot-stoppers. I am a big fan, and he has had a very, very successful season.

“It is never easy playing against teams who are fighting against relegation. They always give 100 per cent, you have to be focused for 90 minutes and committed.

“I’m confident that if we do that we should win the game. But we have to do the simple things first: keep a clean sheet and I’m confident we will score and win the game.”

Martinez’s side have been in good form recently and have been praised for sticking to their passing principles, even as they battle against relegation.

“I said after we beat them 4-0 away [in December], that even at four down they were still trying to play their football and stuck to their game.,” Szczesny said.

“You have to give them a lot of credit because it gets teams tired and towards the end of the season it looks like their results start to pick up. I wish them all the best and I hope they stay up. I have been very impressed by them.”
