The Arsenal Magazine ran a competition back in August for one lucky reader to win the last stone made for Armoury Square, the collection of stones in front of the stadium on street level with various personal messages from Arsenal fans.
The winner, Patrick Johnston, travelled down from Lincoln yesterday and along with his family joined Club legend Kenny Sansom to see it placed.
Patrick had his and his 19-year-old grandson James’ names inscribed on the stone. James was there to see the stone embedded as well as Lesley, Mr. Johnston's wife, their daughter, Sarah, and her husband, Graham.
Patrick kept the whole day a surprise from James, which consisted of a Legends tour around Emirates Stadium with Kenny, the unveiling of the stone where both Patrick, James and Kenny tapped it into place with a mallet, and lunch in an Executive Box, where the party had food overlooking the pitch before finishing their day with a visit to the Arsenal Museum.
With Armoury Square now close to completion, supporters have an opportunity to buy a stone on the North Bank Terrace situated alongside the Tony Adams statue. The stones offer Gunners a unique opportunity to share their Arsenal memories, make a family dedication or offer a loved one a distinctive gift.
