Stars Of 1970: Re-living the Fairs Cup win

The 40th anniversary of Arsenal's first European trophy is here - and the stars of 1970 have been out in force to celebrate.

It was April 28, 1970 when the Gunners lifted the Fairs Cup on a glorious night at Highbury and the men who made it happen were reunited at Emirates Stadium recently for a special commemorative event.

The story is a familiar one to most Arsenal fans. Bertie Mee's side were three goals down during the first leg of the Final in Anderlecht but Ray Kennedy's away goal gave them hope and they turned the tie around on a rousing night in North London.

Eddie Kelly's first-half stunner set Arsenal on their way, a header from John Radford levelled the aggregate scores and Jon Sammels rifled in a trophy-clinching third just two minutes later.

The final whistle was the cue for Arsenal's fans to surge onto the pitch and celebrate with their heroes. And those scenes were played out again at the Emirates as the players and fans reminisced about a night which served as a launchpad for the 1971 Double triumph.

Subscribers can watch a special 'Stars Of 1970' feature on Arsenal TV Online with:
