Alex Song believes Jack Wilshere is the most improved young player at Arsenal.

The 18-year-old has turned heads with his early-season displays for Arsène Wenger's team and ran the show when the Gunners beat local rivals Tottenham in the Carling Cup at White Hart Lane last Tuesday.

Song served a suspension that night but had a close-up view of Wilshere's talent when the teenager came off the bench to partner him for the latter stages of Saturday's defeat against West Brom. The Cameroon star is impressed by what he's seen.

"Jack did very well when he went on loan to Bolton, and that is why we are happy he has come back to Arsenal and shown very great things," said Song.

"Arsenal have lots of young talented players, but Jack is the one who has improved the most. He has shown good character, and I hope he can help us to do what we need to do this year."

Wilshere could start alongside Song this evening as Wenger's side look to make it two wins out of two in Group H when they take on Partizan Belgrade in Serbia. Song admits Arsenal have a point to prove after that surprise 3-2 defeat to West Brom at the weekend.

"Normally we win most games but we have just come here to do our best because we know in the last few days we have not done very well," he said. "We want to show we are ready."
