Arsène Wenger expects to be without Alex Song for Saturday’s Premier League game against Newcastle.
The midfielder was withdrawn at half time during Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Everton after receiving a whack to the thigh and Wenger says it is unlikely he will feature in the North-East. But there was better news on Theo Walcott who has recovered from an ankle knock and is fit for the trip to St James’ Park.
At his pre-match media briefing on Thursday, Wenger also had updates on Samir Nasri and Thomas Vermaelen. The latter has been out since early September, but Wenger can now see the finishing line for his Belgian centre back.
“Alex Song has a nasty kick, yes. I think he will be out for Saturday,” revealed the manager. “Walcott, we have good news, he will be available.
“Samir Nasri, as I said, we predict 21 days from his injury [so] that means three weeks. Thomas Vermaelen is making very good progress so he should be [back in] three to four more weeks.”
** Lukasz Fabianski ruled out for the rest of the season.
