Mikael Silvestre... Frenchman to sit out for 21 days with thigh problem

Silvestre set for three weeks out with injury

By Declan Taylor

Arsène Wenger has revealed that Mikael Silvestre could be out for three weeks.

The 31-year-old started Saturday’s FA Cup Third Round tie against Plymouth but was withdrawn after 30 minutes with a thigh problem, joining fellow defenders Gael Clichy and Kolo Toure on the injury list.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Wenger confirmed the extent of the defender’s problem and also shed some light on the other defensive injuries.

“It is a thigh problem,” said the manager. “[He will be out for] Three weeks, 21 days.

“I have to look at it but at the moment with the injuries we are a little bit short everywhere. I hope Kolo will not be out for a very long time because he has an inflamed groin.

“On the left-hand side we are a bit short but Gael Clichy should be back for next week.”
