Mikael Silvestre insists that only hard work will bring the "happy days" back to Emirates Stadium.

Sunday looked like being a memorable one for the French defender when his header gave Arsenal a two-goal lead at Wigan. But a late collapse saw Arsène Wenger's side ship three goals and crash out of the Premier League title race.

Silvestre will now turn his attention to Saturday's game against Manchester City and he knows there is no substitute for commitment as Arsenal look to cement their top-three placing.

"We need to get back to winning ways, back to happy days, but it won't come like that [the way we played at Wigan]," he told Arsenal TV Online.

"We have to work harder because all the teams in the championship are fighting for their lives. The title race is open but not for us anymore, but we have to secure a Champions League spot and the third or second spot in the League."

Subscribers can now watch an exclusive post-match interview with Mikael. He discusses:

  • what happened in the final 10 minutes
  • the performance in the first 70 minutes
  • how Arsenal can recover
  • the importance of the Man City game
  • not losing sight of the overall achievement this season
