Former Arsenal player Siggi Jonsson has been appointed coach of Swedish First Division side Djurgardens.

The ex-Iceland midfielder will take over the reins next month from temporary coach Anders Gronhagen, who has been in charge since Kjell Jonevret quit in September.

The 40-year-old, who endured an injury-ravaged career at Highbury, also had spells in Britain with Sheffield Wednesday and Dundee United.

Since retiring as a player in 2001, Jonsson has coached Icelandic clubs FH, Vikingur and Grindavik. His new side won the Swedish championship in 2005 but finished sixth in the First Division standings this year.

Djurgardens is the club from which former Arsenal goalkeeper Rami Shabaan signed in August 2002.
