Andre Santos says it was vital for Arsenal to keep their unbeaten run going at the weekend.
Arsenal made it 10 matches without defeat with a 1-1 draw against Fulham at Emirates Stadium as Thomas Vermaelen’s late header rescued a point.
Santos believes the point was a positive one in the circumstances.
“It wasn’t an easy game, Fulham have a quality team,” he told Arsenal.com. “We tried hard even harder in the second half but unfortunately the second goal didn’t come.
“We faced a very good opponent and maybe we didn’t have our best performance but we still have the chance to keep up this good run we’re having.
“The most important thing is that we didn’t lose the game and the team showed spirit.
“It is very important to a team to keep a regular stable run and we are doing that, we’re trying to accumulate as many points as we can now,” he added. “There is still a long season ahead of us.”
Kieran Gibbs’ injury has seen the Brazilian stake his claim for Arsenal’s left-back role and he impressed again on Saturday, despite feeling under the weather.
“For me it has been great and I do want to play every game,” said Santos. “On Saturday I must say I was feeling tired but that is due to a cold I picked up.
“I couldn’t really sleep well but I managed to control it in time and still have a good game. All I want to do is to keep working hard to maintain a good sequence of games.”Copyright 2016 The Arsenal Football Club plc.
