Randall - We can win the Reserve League
By Nick Teale
Mark Randall says Arsenal have the quality and confidence to win the Premier Reserve League this season.
Neil Banfield's side are second in the table just two points behind Aston Villa but with a game in hand over the Midlands outfit who are Arsenal's next opponents.
"We've showed our quality this season," said Randall. "I'm sure we can go on and win the league.
"We've been playing with a lot of confidence and to lose just one game out of six is not a bad record."
Randall has also featured in both of Arsenal's games in the Carling Cup this season and insists that while he enjoys playing at Emirates Stadium, it is important to continue the hard work at Reserve team level.
"It's good to play in front of 60,000 for the first-team," he said. "But when we come back down to Reserves we need to keep it up.
"We've got to take the good notes from the publicity the Carling Cup brings but keep our feet firmly on the ground and give what we give for the first team for the Reserves."
The pressure for midfield places in Banfield's side is intense at Arsenal. In addition to Randall, Fran Merida, Francis Coquelin, Craig Eastmond and Emmanuel Frimpong have all appeared for the first-team this season, Henri Lansbury is enjoying a successful loan spell at Watford and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has just returned from a three-month stint at Blackpool.
Randall has already made nine Carling Cup appearances for the Gunners over the last four seasons and is now hoping to feature in the Quarter-Finals of the current campaign.
However, he knows that with the wealth of young midfielders at the manager's disposal, he will have to work extremely hard to impress Arsène Wenger.
"If I'm in the squad it will be really exciting to go to Manchester City away. They are a great team and it's great stadium but we need to perform to get into the squad.
"There are a lot of young players [in midfield] but if you've worked hard enough you'll get your chances, the manager has shown that."
