Aaron Ramsey admits Wednesday’s Champions League game against Montpellier is a ‘must-win’ for Arsenal - but he does not expect the French side to be pushovers.
With Group B delicately poised, Arsène Wenger’s side need two victories from their final two games to guarantee progression to the knockout stages.
The Gunners are favourites to beat the already-eliminated French champions at Emirates Stadium, but Ramsey warns they will prove difficult opponents.
“When we played them [in France] we were under pressure for periods of the game, and we did well to get a result,” he told Arsenal Player.
“They have competed against every team [in the group] and shown that they can create and can be a threat, so they will be no pushover.
“They will want to prove something as well. We have to be aware of that, and be on top of our game on the day.
“The group is pretty tight, so I think you can say we have to win that game. We are at home, so hopefully we can do that and put ourselves in a strong position to qualify.”
Ramsey hopes victory against Montpellier will go some way to helping them finish top of Group B, and thus avoid a knockout game against a group winner.
“[Finishing second] has been quite costly in the last few years," he said. "We finished second in the group a couple of seasons ago and played Barcelona. So you know you’re going to have a strong team if you do finish second.
"But most importantly we need to qualify, and if we do we’re confident that we can compete and challenge against any team in the competition. But we must qualify first and then go from there.”
