Lukas Podolski says Arsenal must continue to show their fighting spirit if they are to maintain their progress up the table.

Arsène Wenger’s side claimed a narrow 1-0 victory at Wigan on Saturday that moved up into fourth place in the Premier League.

Podolski was delighted with the resilience the Gunners demonstrated at the DW Stadium, and says it could prove crucial during the second half of the season.

“There are always critics when you don’t have good results in the league,” he told Arsenal Player. “We are fourth now and it’s good for us, but we have a lot of matches to go and must keep fighting [and getting] points away at places like Wigan.

“Every victory is important for us to stay in the top four in the Premier League. The three points were very important and it was a very tough game for us.

“Wigan played very well. They created a lot of chances but what is important in these matches is to get the three points and we have them, so we can look forward to our next match.”
