Lukas Podolski intends to share his stunning Champions League goal with his family.

The Germany international smashed a volley into the roof of the net on Wednesday night to secure a 2-0 win over Montpellier and book Arsenal's place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Podolski's mother was at Emirates Stadium to witness her son's magic moment and the 27-year-old intends to pass it down the generations.

"I think it was a great goal," Podolski told Arsenal Player. "I've scored a lot of goals in my career but this was a special goal. It was a home game, a Champions League game. I think it was a great goal, yes.

"[After scoring I waved to] my mother, who was upstairs in a box. She was there in the stadium and watched the game. [The goal] was for her.

"I think after my career, I will remember this goal and have this on my laptop and can watch the game. My son can look at this goal. I think it was a great goal and I’m very happy about it."

After Wednesday's game, Bacary Sagna revealed that Podolski's volleys are a feature of first-team training. It seems practice makes perfect for the Germany forward.

"I don't do it all the time [in training]," smiled Podolski. "I try to score goals, I think I have a good left foot and I try to train on this in every training session. When I score a goal like this, I’m very happy."

Next up for Podolski and Arsenal is a trip to Aston Villa. Paul Lambert's team have only won twice this season but, as Norwich proved against the Gunners and Manchester United, danger lurks around every corner in the Premier League.

"You saw last week, Chelsea lost, Man United lost and you see the league is very dangerous," said Podolski. "There’s not a team you can drive away and beat three or 4-0. Every game is tough and you must fight every match.

"I think we have [had] a great week. We have three matches at home and we have seven points. It was a great week, but we must keep fighting to get the next points to go up [the table] in the Premier League.

"The next game is on Saturday against Aston Villa. It’s a tough game but we want the three points."
