Lukas Podolski says the pain of losing the Euro 2008 final will fire up Germany to go one step further this summer.
The 27-year-old - who is joining Arsenal from Cologne - was part of the side that lost 1-0 to Spain in Vienna four years ago.
Germany’s squad for Euro 2012 contains a number of players who featured in that game and Podolski admits they are determined to put things right in Poland and Ukraine.
“We have been playing together for quite a few years now, and many were there in 2006, 2008 and 2010,” he told Arsenal Player.
“The players know each other well, the coach is very good, and we have confidence that we can get very far this time.
“Of course, our past experiences are a motivating factor. We lost in 2006 and in 2010 [at the World Cup]. These were bitter defeats because we were about to win the title.
“We were in the final in 2008, but should we now meet Spain again in the final, I am sure will get our revenge!”
