Arsène Wenger is hoping for a quick conclusion to the situation surrounding Robert Pires' future.

The 33-year-old has been offered a one-year deal to continue his successful six-year spell at Arsenal. However the ex-Marseille midfielder, whose contract ends this summer, is after a longer term. At the moment there is an impasse.

"There is no news," said Wenger at his pre-match press conference. "I hope to have some soon but there is nothing at the moment.

"Robert is in a situation where he can afford to talk to everybody. He knows he has me available because he knows I want him to stay. Maybe he listens to offers and waits for the moment when he is ready to make a decision. For me, it's the sooner the better."
