The game between Arsenal and Manchester City at the ‘Bird’s Nest’ Stadium was special. A match-up between two major teams at one of the world’s most iconic venues was always going make fans and players go that extra mile.
Here’s a few of stories from that night you might not know about...
- The Fan Cam
Were you at the Man City game? If so you can find yourself on the Emirates Fan Cam. Even if you weren't there you could win a prize if you can spot the Emirates cabin crew in this fantastic 360° image.
- The Giant Shirt from the Fans
At the start of the game, the Arsenal fans raised a huge shirt decorated with 3,300 messages. These had been submitted by Chinese fans via social media.
After the match, a mobile app was launched allowing fans to view their message on the digital version of the shirt and share it with others.
- The Giant Banner from the Players
At the end of the game, the Arsenal players unfurled their own banner saying “Thanks for the support from all Chinese Gooners and see you next time”. It drew an emotional response from the Arsenal fans. On Weibo, Arshally wrote: "When I saw the players raising the banner to us, I just couldn't help crying!"
- The Marriage Proposal
Arsenal Football Club want to have a long-lasting relationship with China – and it seems they have already helped to create one.
Supporter Chen Ze Yi met girlfriend Zhoulandi at the match between Arsène Wenger’s side and Hangzhou Greentown last year. When Arsenal returned to China to play Manchester City at the Bird’s Nest Stadium last week he knew it was an opportunity not to be missed.
So, at the start of the second half, Chen proposed. And, yes, Zhoulandi accepted.
