Arsenal's dramatic triumph in Rome on Wednesday night was their fourth penalty shoot-out in European competition and their first in the Champions League.
The Gunners have now won two and lost two. They beat Sampdoria on penalties in the Cup Winners' Cup in 1995 but suffered heartbreak in the Final of the same competition in 1980.
The 2000 Uefa Cup Final also went to penalties and also ended in disappointment for Arsenal. Read on for full details of our previous European shoot-outs.
