Paralympic champion David Weir started his London campaign in imperious style by easing through to the final of the 5,000 T54 with a commanding victory in his heat. The Londoner posted an impressive time of 11 min 27.87 sec.

Elsewhere, despite an improved performance Rob Richardson's Great Britain sitting volleyball side lost their second match of the Games against Egypt. The hosts got better as the match wore on but were beaten in three sets.

Great Britain's men's wheelchair basketball squad - featuring Abdi Jama - also slipped to a second successive defeat as Canada ran out 70-54 victors.
