Havard Nordtveit believes he can follow in Steve Bould's footsteps and make the transition from promising right back to outstanding centre back.
It's 22 years since the Arsenal legend and current Under-18s coach moved from Stoke to North London, and he went straight into the centre of George Graham's defence alongside Tony Adams.
The titles and cups soon followed but it's easy to forget that Bould started his career as a full back, a position Nordtveit has filled with distinction during pre-season.
As it happens, the 20-year-old has filled a number of positions in recent years. He arrived at Arsenal at a centre back in July 2007 but has chopped and changed during three loan spells in three different countries. So where does he think he'll end up?
"You tell me!" smiled Nordtveit.
"I went to Lillestrom for four months on loan and played 17 games at right back. From there I went straight to Nurnberg. I was there for ten months and played one game at centre back and 19 games in central midfield. Then I came back here and played right back.
"So I am not sure, many big players have to take the same road. Steve Bould played right back before he went to centre back, so it is a good experience to play there because when you are playing centre back you know how the right back is thinking.
"I don't think it is negative to play at right back as well."
