Welcome to a new series on Arsenal.com - My World Cup.
In the weeks leading up to this summer's tournament in South Africa we'll bring you the views of the Arsenal players - some who will be involved, and some who won't.
The cosmopolitan nature of Arsène Wenger's squad means they have a wide range of memories from football's most famous competition. In the latest part, Jack Wilshere reflects on England's fortunes.
My first memory of England at the World Cup is...
"France 1998. I remember the game against Romania when we lost 2-1. I also remember the Argentina game when David Beckham was sent off, and Michael Owen's goal!"
Our best World Cup was....
"1966, because we won it. I don't know a lot about that team but my Dad always says West Ham won it because three of their players played and Geoff Hurst scored a hat trick in the Final."
My country's outstanding World Cup game was...
"The Final in 1966, we beat West Germany 4-2."
Our most memorable individual performance at the World Cup was...
"It wasn't at the actual World Cup but it is David Beckham in the 2002 qualifiers against Greece. He scored the equaliser right at the end."
My favourite World Cup tournament was...
"2002 because that's probably the one I remember most. It was in South Korea and Japan. I watched the games at home with my family.
My most memorable game overall is...
"In 2002 when we beat Argentina 1-0 and Beckham scored a penalty."
I think my country is better than Brazil because...
"We have more passion."
