Eight Arsenal players are currently away on loan, five of whom, Armand Traore, James Dunne, Nacer Barazite, Kerrea Gilbert and Abu Ogogo remain on British soil. Eighteen-year-old left-back Traore is the only loanee cutting his teeth in the Premier League while Dunne, Barazite, Gilbert and Ogogo are further down the English system with Nottingham Forest, Derby County, Leicester City and Barnet respectively.
Overseas, the Gunners have players in Italy, Spain and Holland. Philippe Senderos, who has made 115 appearances for the Gunners, will spend the season with Serie A giants AC Milan. Pedro Botelho has joined Spanish Segunda Division outfit UD Salamanca while Vincent van den Berg is out on his second loan spell in as many years, this time with FC Zwolle of the Eerste Divisie in Holland.
Armand Traore
Portsmouth 3-2 Blackburn, Sunday, November 30.
Armand played 76 minutes of Portsmouth’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Blackburn Rovers at Fratton Park on Sunday.
The Frenchman, deployed on the left wing, almost handed Portsmouth the lead early on with a sizzling low drive and should have seen his delightful cross headed home by Peter Crouch just before the interval. Instead, all five goals came in the second half. Crouch converted Glen Johnson’s right-wing cross before Jermain Defoe slid a low effort past Paul Robinson to hand the hosts a 2-0 lead. Substitute Matt Derbyshire pulled one back for the visitors and, in the 66th minute, Tugay fired Blackburn back on terms. But with 11 minutes remaining it was Traore’s replacement, Sean Davis, who finally notched Pompey’s winner.
Nacer Barazite
Burnley 3-0 Derby, Saturday, November 29.
Nacer was an unused substitute as Derby were swept aside by Arsenal’s Carling Cup Quarter Final opponents. Burnley, at Turf Moor on Saturday. It took the Clarets just six minutes to take the lead when Kevin Macdonald brilliantly volleyed home from long range. Martin Paterson then notched twice before the interval to leave Derby without an away win since October 4.
Abu Ogogo
Port Vale 0-0 Barnet, Tuesday November 25.
Abu turned in an astute display on the right of the Barnet defence as they secured an impressive point at Vale Park. Barnet striker John O’Flynn shot inches over the bar in the first half but that was the closest they came. Lee Collins and Marc Richards both threatened for Vale but they were unable to break the deadlock.
Pedro Botelho
UD Salamanca 1-0 Cordoba Sunday, November 30.
Pedro played all 90 minutes as Salamanca left it late to record a 1-0 victory over lowly Cordoba. Los Charros dominated the game but had to wait until stoppage time for Miku to strike the winning goal. The victory leaves Salamanca second in La Liga Adelante, level on points with leaders Deportivo Xerez.
