and Millwall respectively. Promising Mexican striker

Kerrea Gilbert
Southend United 3 - 0 Gillingham, September 8
Defender Kerrea Gilbert played 90 minutes for Southend as they
romped to a 3-0 victory over Gillingham at Roots Hall.
Southend's second win of the season was welcome relief
following their midweek penalty shoot-out defeat by Dagenham &
Redbridge in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Debutant Leon Clarke
was the difference, scoring once and making two goals. Nicky Bailey
scored on eight minutes following a neat one-two with Clarke, and
Alan McCormack doubled the lead just before the break. Clarke, on
loan from Sheffield Wednesday, then completed the rout on the hour
mark.
Jay Simpson
Brighton and Hove Albion 3 - 0 Millwall, September 7
Jay Simpson was introduced after an hour but could not prevent
Millwall going down 3-0 away to Brighton and Hove Albion. The win
was Brighton's third in a row and leaves Millwall just one
point above the relegation zone in 19th place. An early penalty
from Dean Hammond and a deft chip from Dean Cox had the home side
two up inside 20 minutes. Millwall offered little in return but
with the arrival of Simpson they began to look threatening.
However, as the Lions pressed for a breakthrough, Brighton
substitute David Marlot wrapped up the points for Albion.
