Eight Arsenal players are currently away on loan, five of whom, Armand Traore, James Dunne, Nacer Barazite, Kerrea Gilbert and Abu Ogogo remain on British soil. Eighteen-year-old left-back Traore is the only loanee cutting his teeth in the Premier League while Dunne, Barazite, Gilbert and Ogogo are further down the English system with Nottingham Forest, Derby County, Leicester City and Barnet respectively.

Overseas, the Gunners have players in Italy, Spain and Holland. Philippe Senderos, who has made 115 appearances for the Gunners, will spend the season with Serie A giants AC Milan. Pedro Botelho has joined Spanish Segunda Division outfit UD Salamanca while Vincent van den Berg is out on his second loan spell in as many years, this time with FC Zwolle of the Eerste Divisie in Holland.

Armand replaced Arnold Mvuemba after 58 minutes of Portsmouth’s 3-0 defeat to Newcastle at Fratton Park on Sunday. Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins and Danny Guthrie all struck in the second half to hand Newcastle their first win in five games. As a result, Portsmouth now sit eighth in the Premier League but have won just one of their last seven games in all competitions.

Kerrea played another 90 minutes for league leaders Leicester as they came from behind to beat Carlisle at Brunton Park on Saturday. Danny Graham slid the home side ahead from close range after 11 minutes when he rounded Foxes keeper David Martin. Andy King equalised on the hour mark before Bruno Berner netted the winner nine minutes later.

Philippe was an unused substitute as AC Milan were eventually beaten in an enthralling affair at Juventus. Alessandro del Piero put the hosts in front from the spot on the quarter-hour but Alexandre Pato equalised 16 minutes later. Giorgio Chiellini restored Juve’s lead 90 seconds later and Amauri extended their advantage four minutes before the break. Massimo Abromsini threw the visitors a lifeline just before the hour but Gianluca Zambrotta’s 65th-minute red card made a difficult task even harder. Amauri duly grabbed his second of the evening, and Juve’s fourth, just four minutes later.

Pedro racked up 90 minutes for second-place Salamanca as they swept aside Levante on Sunday. Raul Ganan handed the home side the lead after 20 minutes and, despite dominating the encounter, Los Charros had to wait until late on to finally extend their lead. Miku and Sergio Pelegrin both struck in stoppage time to secure a comprehensive victory.
