Shelley Kerr spoke to Arsenal.com after her team secured their seventh straight victory by beating Everton 5-0 in the Women's Super League on Sunday. Here's a full transcript of what she said:
on a strong performance…
It's fantastic and pleasing to keep a clean sheet and score so many goals. In saying that, Everton created a couple of chances as well so there's always things we can improve on. I think when you take into consideration that we've had three games in eight days, it's been a tough ask for the players and I'm delighted to be standing here after those three games having not conceded a goal and scored so many.
on scoring early again…
We've got off to a quick start and that's helped us. I think it gives you a little bit of confidence and I think that's something that was perhaps missing in the first part of the season. The longer the games were going on without us scoring puts more pressure on you. It's good to get off to a good start. I think it gives you that confidence to play with a bit of flair. We've always told the girls to start well but we've maybe not been clinical enough in front of goal. Over the three games, we've been creating chances and also taking them which is a big difference.
on Danielle Carter…
She's responded great. I think by adding to the squad, it puts everyone under pressure because there's not an assumption that they are going to play. They have to work and they have to earn their place in the team. Danielle's grabbed an opportunity and she's done really well since coming in.
on working hard not to concede…
It's something that we speak about all the time. I think defensively you have to be rock solid and even when we score goals, we're still trying to get that mentality that we don't want to concede any. Keeping clean sheets is something we're really conscious of doing.
on building momentum…
We're building up at the right time although we're not getting too far in front of ourselves. We take each game at a time. We're very respectful to the other teams in this league and every game is difficult. You have to earn the right to win games and I thought we did that today.
