Carl Jenkinson says Arsenal’s recent results prove that the team is building up a real head of steam as they enter the closing stages of the season.

Arsène Wenger’s side have beaten Tottenham, Liverpool and AC Milan over the past two weeks and are now within four points of third-placed Spurs in the Premier League.

Although the Gunners’ 3-0 win against AC Milan was not enough to see them progress in the Champions League, Jenkinson says the result has increased the squad’s self-belief.

“In the Liverpool game we pulled off a fantastic result and Milan speaks for itself,” he told Arsenal Player.

“It was a very proud day for everyone, whether you are part of the Club or a fan. Even though the end result was not what we wanted there was a definite sense of pride.

“It was strange afterwards; the disappointment was etched on everyone's faces. We all believed we could do it. To come so close was hard but the performance the lads put in was amazing - I was incredibly proud of all of my team-mates for the way they battled.

“A lesser team would have thought, 'we are four goals down against AC Milan, it's not going to happen,' but we went out there and gave everything.”

Wojciech Szczesny said the result would show Arsenal’s rivals that they can beat anyone, and Jenkinson is in total agreement.

“We have really found our feet in the past few games and had some tremendous results,” he said.

“From the Spurs game to Liverpool to Milan, the momentum has been building and building. It is fantastic the way we have been playing, but we need to keep that going. Newcastle are a good side so we need to take what we have been doing well into that game and go from there.”

Jenkinson also believes that Arsenal can now realistically aim to topple Tottenham and claim third place by the end of the campaign.

“It is not out of our reach. We want to finish above Spurs, that is our main aim,” he said.

“Of course we want to get into the top four, that is a priority, but me and all the other lads want to finish above Spurs.”
