Carlos Vela
Italy 1-2 Mexico
Thursday, June 3
Carlos Vela was on the scoresheet as Mexico defeated Italy in their final warm-up match ahead of the World Cup.
The Arsenal striker broke the deadlock 17 minutes in when Giovani dos Santos chipped the ball into the area. Vela timed his run well and met the pass six yards out to turn the ball past Gianluigi Buffon.
The Italian keeper managed to get a touch on the ball but his outstretched hand wasn't enough to deny the 21-year-old.
Mexico extended their lead in the second half when Cuauhtemoc Blanco found Alberto Medina with a clever pass over the Italy backline. The substitute collected it on the edge of the area and strode forward to slot past Buffon.
The reigning world champions got a consolation two minutes from time when Leonardo Bonucci tapped in from close range.
Mexico will now travel to South Africa as they prepare to take on the host country in the competition's opening fixture on Friday, June 11.

Spain's winner came four minutes from time when Jesus Navas smashed the ball into the top corner from range.
The European champions take on Poland in a final warm-up match on Tuesday.
