Robin van Persie played 90 minutes and converted a penalty as Netherlands defeated Ghana 4-1 in a friendly in Rotterdam on Tuesday.

The Arsenal striker played a major part in creating the opener. He received the ball from Wesley Sneijder on the edge of the area and turned his man to unleash a shot on goal. His effort was saved but the rebound fell kindly to Dirk Kuyt who tapped in to give the Dutch a first-half lead.

Rafael van der Vaart made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute before Ghana pulled one back through Asamoah Gyan but their hopes of a comeback were dashed when Sneijder volleyed in a third for Netherlands.

The hosts added a fourth with three minutes remaining after the referee awarded a penalty for a foul on Van der Vaart. Van Persie stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to score his third goal in two games.

Netherlands play their final friendly before the World Cup on Saturday when they take on Hungary.
